Databricks has introduced Private Network Gateway, a managed service that gives its serverless compute one private route into a customer's own network. SDxCentral reported the launch on October 16, 2026. The service is in public preview on Microsoft Azure and private preview on AWS, and Databricks says Google Cloud support is being built.
The pitch is simpler networking. Until now, letting serverless jobs reach internal databases or services meant setting up private endpoints, load balancers and proxy machines for each resource. With the gateway, a customer hands one subnet to Databricks, which runs and maintains the gateway there. There are two modes: send only a list of approved domain names through the gateway, or route all outbound traffic through the customer's network so existing egress rules still apply. Databricks says isolation is enforced per gateway, with workspace access controls checked before traffic leaves. The company cited a survey in which more than 75 percent of users said network changes were the main reason some workloads stayed on classic compute rather than moving to serverless. Two customers, a Slovenian banking group and a furniture hardware maker, are quoted saying setup became easier.
Why it matters
Data teams that stuck with classic clusters for network reasons may now be able to move those jobs to serverless.
