Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA said on October 16, 2026 that they will extend their partnership to build the next generation of driver assistance and automated driving systems together. Mercedes brings its car engineering, safety work and its MB.OS operating system, which handles new driving features and over-the-air updates. NVIDIA brings its Hyperion computer and sensor platform, its Alpamayo driving software, and its Halos safety system.
The companies say the software stack uses AI reasoning to support point-to-point driving assistance in cities, active safety features and automated parking. Halos adds a second, parallel safety stack that acts as a backup and sets limits on what the main system can do. The partners also name future SAE Level 4 uses, where the car drives itself in defined conditions, including what they call robolimousines. Mercedes' technology chief called NVIDIA its most important partner in automated driving. Outside the car, Mercedes says it also uses NVIDIA tools for engineering simulation and inside MO360, its digital factory system. The announcement does not give dates, prices or the vehicle models that will get the new systems.
Why it matters
It shows carmakers leaning on a single AI chip and software supplier for the hardest parts of self-driving.
