Qualcomm says reports that its Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 has overheating problems are inaccurate. 9to5Google published the company's statement on October 17, 2026.

The denial follows reports from Korea that Samsung was talking with Qualcomm about thermal issues with the chip and was weighing whether to skip it in favor of its own Exynos 2700 processor. In its statement, Qualcomm said it is proud of the momentum behind its next flagship platform and keeps working closely with phone makers around the world. Its chief marketing officer, Don McGuire, added on X that there are no systemic thermal issues, and that phone makers always tune their devices to balance performance and power as they launch.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 has two CPU cores that run at 5GHz and promises large CPU and GPU gains over last year's chip. Phones already confirmed to use it include the Motorola Signature 27, Xiaomi 18, Redmagic 12 Pro Plus, Honor Magic 9 Pro Max and OnePlus 16. Qualcomm's statement does not mention Samsung directly.

Why it matters

Thermal limits on flagship chips affect how fast on-device AI, games and heavy apps run, so mobile developers should test sustained performance, not just peak speed.
