Replit CEO Amjad Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt on Thursday, October 15, 2026 that the AI coding platform was no longer working with Anthropic. TechCrunch updated its report on October 17 after Masad clarified what that means: Anthropic's Claude models are still available on Replit, but OpenAI is now the default and the preferred partner for Replit Agent.
Masad said the switch came down to cost, the partnership and performance, claiming that OpenAI's models do better on Replit's own benchmark for building apps from scratch. Since most users never change the default model, the move could cut Replit's spending with Anthropic sharply. Masad said Replit had been one of Anthropic's top five customers until recently. People familiar with the relationship told TechCrunch the Anthropic partnership is still in place, and a Replit blog post from late September still listed Claude models in production.
Masad also shared growth details. He said enterprise contracts went from about 2 percent of revenue last year to about 15 percent this year, more than half of revenue is now business-to-business, and he expects enterprise and government to pass half of revenue in 2027. Replit has not shared annual revenue figures.
Why it matters
Coding tools switch model suppliers based on price and benchmarks, so builders on these platforms should expect the model under the hood to change.
