Google Cloud has been dealing with a major outage in its London region, europe-west2, since 11:08 p.m. Pacific time on Monday, October 19, 2026, which was early Tuesday morning in the UK. Google's status page says a power event took down the europe-west2-b zone, leaving services there unavailable and causing errors and network trouble elsewhere in the region. The list of affected products is long and includes Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Spanner and Pub/Sub.

In its 4:58 a.m. Pacific update, Google said the power problem was fixed and services were recovering, with existing workloads restored first. Customers might not yet be able to create new workloads, and Google tentatively expected existing workloads to be fully back by 6 a.m. Pacific. Its advice was to move affected workloads to another zone or region if possible.

The outage reached UK banking. The Guardian reported that Revolut customers could not sign in, pay by card, make transfers or withdraw cash, and that Lloyds Bank and other companies also had problems. Revolut, which runs on Google Cloud under a strategic partnership, said customers' money and data were safe.

Why it matters

A single zone losing power took down a major bank app for millions of people, a reminder to test multi-zone and multi-region failover before it is needed.
