Google Cloud announced that OpenAI models are now available through its model garden, making Google the only major cloud provider offering all three leading closed-source model families in one place. The three new models rolling out in private preview are GPT-6 Astra for demanding coding and research work, GPT-6.1 Sol as a lower-cost option with similar capability, and GPT-6 Luna for fast, everyday tasks at scale.

Because the models are sold through Google Cloud's marketplace, usage bills appear on a company's existing Google Cloud invoice and counts toward committed spending plans, rather than requiring a separate OpenAI contract. Google says customer prompts and outputs stay within a company's own data boundary and are not used to train any foundation models, and that OpenAI has no access to a customer's cloud environment. Zero-data-retention options and confidential computing are described as coming soon.

Google plans to bring the OpenAI models into its Gemini for business product and its Antigravity platform later, and says developers can already connect their local Codex CLI and desktop tools to Google's platform for inference. Access currently requires signing up for the preview.

Why it matters

It gives enterprise developers a single governed platform to mix and swap between OpenAI, Gemini, and other models instead of managing separate vendor contracts.
