AWS has added two new controls to Web Search on Amazon Bedrock: domain filtering and user location, both configured directly on the web_search tool within the existing OpenAI Responses API request format.
Domain filtering lets developers restrict Web Search results using a filters parameter, specifying up to 100 allowed_domains to limit results to trusted sources, or up to 100 blocked_domains to exclude sources they don't want showing up. AWS says this is useful for grounding responses only in specific sites or keeping certain domains out of results entirely.
The user location control lets developers optionally specify location parameters so Web Search returns results relevant to a particular geography, which helps with location-dependent questions such as regional availability or local services. Both features are available in all AWS Regions where Web Search is currently supported: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), and AWS GovCloud (US-West).
Why it matters
Tighter control over which sources ground a model's answers makes Bedrock's web search more usable for production applications that need reliable, scoped results.
