Anthropic is renaming its Claude Max subscription tiers: the plan previously called Max 5x is now simply called Max, and Max 20x is now called Ultra. Pricing stays the same, with Max at $100 a month and Ultra at $200 a month, and existing subscribers do not need to take any action because of the renaming.

Alongside the name change, Anthropic is removing the 5-hour usage limit for verified Ultra accounts. The rollout began on October 30 for most existing subscribers. Newer accounts will keep a temporary limit until they go through verification, which Anthropic says helps prevent fraud and abuse, and affected users will get an email once the limit is lifted from their account.

Weekly usage limits are not changing as part of this update. Anthropic pointed subscribers to claude.com/pricing for the current plan details.

Why it matters

Removing the 5-hour cap makes Ultra meaningfully more usable for people running long coding or research sessions without worrying about mid-session throttling.
