OpenAI has started rolling out account switching in ChatGPT, letting users stay signed in to up to two accounts at once and switch between them without logging out. The feature began rolling out on iOS and Android on October 30, 2026, and is also available on the web.
Each account keeps its own chats, memory, files, settings, and billing completely separate, and only one account is active at a time. Switching does not move chats between accounts, share memory or files, combine billing, or merge accounts and workspaces. On mobile, users can get notifications for both signed-in accounts, and tapping a notification from the inactive account switches to it automatically.
Users can have more than two accounts total, but must sign out of one of the two active sessions before adding another. Creating a second account doesn't require payment and starts on the Free plan by default. For workspace-managed accounts, administrators retain their usual ability to access and manage data tied to that account.
Why it matters
It makes it easier for people who juggle a personal and work ChatGPT account to switch between them without constant logins.
