TechCrunch reports, citing a person familiar with the discussions, that Palo Alto Networks is in talks to acquire Clutch Security for $500 million in cash plus additional milestone payments. Clutch builds tools that secure the access AI agents have to company systems, a growing concern as more businesses deploy autonomous agents with real permissions. The startup was last valued at $85 million when it raised a $20 million Series A round in January 2025, led by Lightspeed and SignalFire. The company is now approaching $10 million in annual recurring revenue, which would put the reported deal price at about 50 times that figure. Citing PitchBook data, TechCrunch notes this would be Palo Alto Networks' seventh acquisition of 2026 if it goes through. Neither company has commented publicly, and The Information was first to report the talks.

Why it matters

As companies give AI agents more access to internal systems, securing that access is becoming its own specialized market, and big security vendors are moving fast to buy into it.
